Research studies conducted in the US show 53% of skin cancers occur on the driving-side.

Imagine what Australian sun does to that number.

Side windows don't block UV

Front windscreens block the majority of

UV radiation (around 93%).

Side windows don't.

Estimates of UVA transmission through

side and rear car windows (made from tempered glass)

range as high as 79% when closed and of course

100% when windows are wound down.

Most of us don't apply - or reapply - sunscreen for car trips.  So daily driving quietly adds up to serious sun exposure for our driving-sides.

The Cancer Council urge sun protection while driving.

Sun protection is recommended when

UV levels are higher than 3.

That's nearly every day across Australia.

Even on cloudy days, every driver is exposed to harmful UV rays because UV radiation can penetrate cloud cover.

Mostly we're not wearing sunscreen for car trips.

The average Australian spends 55 minutes each day in their car, driving to work, their kids to school or running errands.

Mostly we're not wearing sunscreen,

deeming it unnecessary for quick trips, unappealing to wear with professional attire, greasy/messy for the car,

or we don't have a sunscreen bottle on hand.
